WELCOME, N.C. (June 26, 2017) – Kaulig Racing driver Blake Koch will carry a special windshield decal on the No. 11 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Chevrolet Camaro this weekend at Daytona International Speedway, honoring the service of Cody Rainey, son of Kaulig Racing fabricator, Chad Rainey. The decal will display the name of Cody’s unit, U.S. Army 3rd Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, which is based in Fort Hood, Texas.
“I’m so excited we are able to honor one of our own at Daytona this weekend in conjunction with NASCAR’s Salutes initiative,” said Koch. “We are honored to have a U.S. military veteran in Chad Rainey on the No. 11 team and it’s awesome to see that his son Cody has followed in his footsteps. While we know this is a small gesture compared to Cody and his fellow soldiers’ commitment and sacrifice, we hope they know how much we appreciate their service.”
Chad Rainey joined the NASCAR ranks over 20 years ago after serving in the U.S. Army for over seven years. Prior to joining Kaulig Racing in 2016, Rainey served as a car chief and tire changer for several championship-winning NASCAR teams. His son, 21-year-old Cody, dreamt his whole life of following in his dad’s footsteps and joining the U.S. Army.
“It definitely makes you feel good when your kid wants to grow up to be like you, ” said Chad Rainey. “His mom and I are really proud of him and want to thank NASCAR for all they do for our current and past military members and their families.”
The younger Rainey has already earned some of the same accolades as his father so far in his training, including expert shooter. Cody Rainey has also received the Army Achievement medal for his dedication to serving our country.
Koch, a West Palm Beach, Fla. native makes his 11th NASCAR XFINITY Series start at Daytona International Speedway this weekend.
Tune-in to watch Koch and the No. 11 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Chevy on Friday, June 30th at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN or listen in to the live broadcast on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SIRIUS XM Channel 90.
